Can anyone in the competition stop Donnell Wallam?
It does not look like it.
The West Coast Warriors spearhead shooter was on fire yet again scoring 58 of her 64 attempts in only three quarters. Spectators were on the edge of their seats as she scored from the rebounding balls going out of court.
The Warriors looked to be a polished unit from the start and presented a team whose dominance was evident leading the whole game and marching to a 91-42 goal win over Peel Lightning in Round 5 of the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League.
The Warriors stormed to a 28-goal lead at half time. The Jets were unable to capitalise on their chances as Warriors defenders successfully targeted goal shooter Giselle Taylor.
Jets defenders Riley Culnane and Shaye Skraha worked tirelessly throughout all the four quarters to try and halt the Warriors lead, but their high leaps just cut short of Wallam.
The second half brought about some change to the Warriors line up with some fresh legs joining the court as Wallam was rested the final quarter. Goal attack Hayley McKee was an addition that fit well within West Coast’s game plan, her cohesion with the other attackers highlighted the Warriors clean skills.
Coach Lorraine Ward was over the moon with her team’s performance and said the change in the final quarter brought about a new dynamic that did not interrupt their streamline play.
“I thought our depth was really good tonight and we put them over there and there was no real disruption to our play, they did a terrific job,” she said.
Souwest Jets coach Erin Culnane said her girls will walk away from the game with many lessons and although the Jets remain winless, they will continue to play with their strong push.
“I think for us we just keep going back and we keep working hard at training, I am impressed that even when the digs were down, we just kept on fighting against a good quality opposition,” she said.
