The Western Roar are the first team through to the GIG WA Netball League Grand Final after they defeated the Hamersley Comets by four goals.

The Comets will now face the Fremantle Sharks in this weekend’s Preliminary Final.
Roar 46 defeated Comets 42

The top of the table rivalry continues as the Western Roar continued their unbeaten run and a shot at a perfect season in two weeks’ time.

Roar’s Zoe Cransberg, who also spent her weekend on court for the West Coast Fever Reserves side, was everywhere and anywhere in her centre bib producing strong movement up the court.

Teammate and fellow Reserves athlete Caitlyn Brown was a star in Goal Keeper, finding deflections in and out of the circle.

Roar’s goal side consisted of Sophia Lamers 33 goals, Asha Parson’s seven and Emma Putt with six.

Comet Clara Wigley was strong in the mid court, using the circle to both feed into her shooters and limit her opposition.

Madeleine Ash was once again consistent in goals taking 31 for the evening, followed by Emma Cosh with seven and Halle Richards with four.

Although they didn’t achieve the win on the night, the Comets fought until the very end, even outscoring the Roar in the final quarter.

Sharks 51 defeated Demons 37

The Fremantle Sharks kept their season alive for another week, after they extinguished the Southside Demons by 14 goals in the Elimination Final.

West Coast Fever’s 11th player Ruth Aryang was on fire in defence, her ability to get deflections and put pressure on the shooters in both Goal Keeper and Goal Defence played an integral to her team’s win.

All three members of the Sharks shooting trio found themselves on court at the same time. West Coast Fever Training Partner Georgie Cleaver spent time in Wing Attack and did a fantastic job, creating options around the circle.

Larrissa Harrisson (40 goals) and Sophie Eastaugh (11) have found a good rhythm as a combination in goals which is being reflected in the scores.

Demon Chanel Gomes in Goal Defence found important intercepts and was essential in keeping the margin close for much of the match.

Abbey Hanley in Goal Keeper was searching for those rebounds and did her best to limit Harrisson’s influence.

The experienced Demons shooting side of Meg Gallager (19), Ashleigh Cupido (16), and Nikala Cox (2) just could not get the supply to put scoreboard pressure on the Sharks.

Although their season has now ended, the Demons can be proud of the work as they produce another fourth place finish in the Open division.

Watch the replay.
