Peel Lightning recorded their third win for the season with a 66-53 victory against Southside Demons in Round 9 of the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League, on Friday night.
Lightning hit the scoreboard early with goal attack Ellie Smart securing the first goal of the game and proving her worth throughout with plenty of intercepts as Demons struggled with their passing shots.
Closing in on halftime, the Demons continued their attack on the ball with goal shooter Meg Gallagher securing eight goals, closing the margin down to seven as Peel continued their lead at the main break, 26-33.
Demons continued their pressure after the main break, mid-courter Teagan Phillips proved her nimble and agile capabilities throughout the third quarter taking control of the ball, but Lightning kept their heads in front extending their lead to eight goals at three quarter time.
Peel Lightning were always one step ahead converting their goals each quarter and leading the team to victory. Katie Swetman had a big night scoring 42 of Lightning’s 66 goals.
Peel Lightning coach Naomi Pannell said she was happy with the win and the overall team effort.
“A really good team effort; the players all trusted each other so it was really nice to see that unity out on court.” Pannell said.
