The Hamersley Comets 20/U side have won the club’s first ever piece of Gold Industry Group WA Netball League silverware defeating the Southside Demons 60-49 in the 20/U decider.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Comets hit the ground running and burst out to a nine-goal lead. This proved to be the pivotal moment as the Demons could not recover the deficit.

Jamaica Jauncey was named Most Valuable Player for her incredible haul of 50 Goals and provided a safe pair of hands in the circle along with Captain Madeleine Ash, playing her 50th game for the Comets.

Despite looking shaky at times in the final 10 minutes of play, the Comets regained composure and ensured they would end up with their hands on the trophy.

The Comets began the game well and despite having the Demons turnover the first centre pass, they denied them the conversion and then turned the ball over themselves to score the first three goals.

While the Comets were building an early lead, their game was far from perfect but they were doing just enough to get the edge over the Demons.

Comets Centre Clara Wigley was instrumental in her team’s dominance in the centre third and her combination with Wing Attack Honey Harrington set the tone for the Comets.

As the first half wore on, the Demons looked stronger and stronger and they managed to shut down the Comets’ midcourt.

Demons Captain and Goal Attack Georgia Ettridge was impressive with her shooting from range and helped her team roll back the deficit to just two goals.

As the game moved into the second half, the Comets looked vulnerable with a lead of just three.

Despite play being very messy and both sides making errors with the ball, the Comets were able to once again build a lead.

It was an extremely physical period of play with players often hitting the floor as they put their bodies on the line.
