The City of Bunbury recently received $532,822 for the upgrades, which will allow the Association to reconfigure their courts to 12 courts, as well as the removal of 11 lighting towers and upgrade of six new towers.
Bunbury Netball Association President Graham Jones said the upgrades will be extremely beneficial to the growth of sport in the community.
“The upgrades will be funding new lighting for the facility including a full base reconstruction, as well as a storm water upgrade,” Mr Jones said.
“We will install new fencing since it needs to be moved out by a couple of meters in each direction for safety.
“We have a couple of courts that are dual use with basketball, so we are installing towers that can flip around and be adjusted by height for the juniors and seniors so they’re a bit more sophisticated.”
The decision to reduce the 14 courts to 12 is a long time coming according to Jones, with the two extra courts being out of service for up to eight years due to their poor condition. Their removal will allow for more space between courts and an overall safer space for umpires and players.
Jones hopes the upgrades will continue to attract the community down to the Association.
“It re-establishes the organisation as one of those outdoor courts that can continue to provide, and we can grow our program now because our venue is up to scratch.”
Bunbury Netball Association hopes to have the upgrades completed in time for the 2025 season.
