Three brothers from the South West have proven that netball is a sport for all after their success in both the local and representative environment.

Sebastian and Boston Moore both competed as part of the Bridgetown/ Manjimup representative teams during the Fuel to go + Play Association Championships.

The Association Championships allow for players to come together from across the State and compete in a highly skilled environment.

The boys’  Mother Geri Moore said they had a really positive experience at the Championships and are already excited to travel back to Perth to play in 2025.

“They absolutely loved it, playing a competition with boys against boys was super beneficial for their skills,” she said.

“The competition format gave them the opportunity to really work together and get some good plays happening.”

The competition allowed for boys to test their skills in both the younger mixed divisions and 15/U boys division. Teams came from Associations such as Wanneroo, Kalamunda and Bridgetown/Manjimup.

Although the Moore brothers weren’t able to take home the trophy with their side, the experience of such a competitive round robin environment was beneficial to the skills.

Both boys play once a week in their local competition. Sebastian (14) began playing in 2023 and managed to win both the runner up most valuable player award and the division alongside his team.

Boston (12) is currently in his first year, as well as their younger brother Amos (nine) who has just begun playing local level.

The Moore brothers found their start in netball after a teacher encouraged them to give it a go. Sebastian, like many other young male netball players has a basketball background and found the swap quite seamless.

Geri said the fast-paced nature of netball has helped him improve his skills in both sports.

“The rules were initially challenging because they have to be aware of so many things, but once they got them down pat, they have been doing really well,” she said.

Geri also commends the supportive nature of the netball as a sport.

“Everyone is really supportive, it’s a great volunteer run community,” she said.

“In each competition they have played in, everyone really rallies together, netball is super encouraging.”

The Moore brothers have proven that netball is not just a sport for girls. They will continue to play basketball in the summer and netball in the winter with hopes of continuing throughout the pathway.
