Due to the uncertainty of the current Coronavirus situation in Western Australia, Netball WA have made the difficult decision to postpone the NAIDOC Netball Carnival to Sunday 7 November.
Originally due to take place on Wednesday 7 July 2021, participant’s safety was at the forefront of the decision to postpone based on relevant health advice from the State Government.
Initially scheduled to align with the National NAIDOC Week celebrations, the Carnival brings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander netball players from across WA to participate in competitive netball as well as celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander people.
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth, said the decision was made in the interest of community safety.
“The NAIDOC Netball Carnival is one of Netball WA’s flagship events and whilst it’s devastating to postpone it, we look forward to delivering this great carnival when it is safe to do so,” said Booth.
“In the environment we currently live in, we need to be adaptable.”
“My heart goes out to all the participants who had worked hard in preparation for this event.”
This year’s NAIDOC Netball Carnival will see over 100 teams battle it out on the court to showcase Aboriginal talent, heritage and culture.
