UMPIRE & BENCH OFFICIAL

Umpires and Bench Officials have an important role to play, and being an Umpire or Bench Official provides you with much more than just the ability to officiate the rules of the game. 

1. Must be a registered member of Netball WA
2. Obtain a copy and study the Official Rules of Netball book
3. Sit the Rules of Netball Theory Exam
4. Complete the Foundation Umpiring Course
5. Contact your local Club/Association for Umpire Coaching and Badging

In 2022, Netball WA, in conjunction with West Coast Fever Netball Club, is proud to launch the Metro Umpire Academy Program. The program aligns with the Statewide Regional Umpire Academy Program educating and supporting identified officials through the NWA Umpire pathway.
  
The program will be delivered as one Metro Umpire Academy with identified umpires from all Metro associations invited to participate.

The program will run from August to October each year culminating with umpires officiating at the Netball WA State Cup.  The State Cup is the premier Statewide competition and is a viewing platform for Gold Industry Group WANL clubs and NWA State Umpire Program.

Purpose of the Program
•	To identify umpires with potential to move through the NWA Umpire Pathway or ability to become a future NWA State Umpire Squad member.
•	To expose umpires to an elite training environment 
•	To expand and develop umpires skills and technical knowledge 

Metro Umpire Academy Selection 
Umpires must be identified by an NWA Regional Officials Coordiantor, Association Umpire Development Officer or experienced Association Umpire Coach.
*Development WANL Umpires are eligible for selection into the Metro Umpire Academy

Umpire Progression
Identified umpires within with the Program will be invited to the trial for the 2023 NWA State Umpire Program to officiate the GIG WANL competition.

Umpire Coach Selection
Four Umpire coaches will lead, guide and mentor our up and coming talented umpires and deliver the Metro Umpire Academy program.
Eligability:
•	Currently coaching umpires at a National B or C (high) at Association level 
•	Current or previous experience coaching experience at a GIG WANL or Regional level
•	hold a current national A or B Badge (or be working towards)
