The purpose of the Volunteer of the Year Achievement Award is to recognise a volunteer member within the Netball WA North West regional area that has made a significant contribution to netball in a volunteer capacity over the designated 12-month period. 2024 Applications Opening Date: Friday 9 February 2024 Closing Date: Friday 19 April 2024
Netball WA (NWA) provides visits, training, development, accreditation, and education workshops to Associations. The North West Regional Championships have age divisions from 12 & Under through to Open and Masters. The purpose of the Championships is to: o provide a platform for Association representative teams to compete against other Associations in the North West geographical area; o provide a platform for Coach mentoring; o provide a platform for Umpire coaching and badging; o provide Selectors the opportunity for the identification of Coaches, Player’s and Umpire’s for further pathway program’s and regional representative teams; o provide an opportunity for the netball community to come together to network and socialise. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander netball players from across WA North West and WA are invited to participate in the North West NAIDOC carnival. Teams are required to have 5 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander players per team on court at any one time. Umpires from affiliated Associations in the North West may be identified and selected into the North West Umpire Development Academy. Umpire selection for this program comes primarily from the North West Regional Championships. However, umpires that have been identified at other Carnivals or Association visits can be included into the program. Umpires may be invited to the North West Talent Development Camp as a component of the program This program offers selected umpires the opportunity for further pathway development both on and off court. The athlete selection for this program comes primarily from the North West Regional Championships. However, if there is a valid reason as to why an athlete or coach is not able to participate in the Championships and they have been identified at other Carnivals or Association visits they may be included into the program. This program offers selected athletes and coaches the opportunity for further pathway development at a camp to be held in Port Hedland. State Cup Team athletes and coaches are selected from the Talent Development Camp. Satellite training sessions for selected State Cup Team athletes will be held at the athletes Association in the lead up to the State Cup. The State Cup Competition provides the opportunity for the players, coaches and umpires in Association and Regional Representative Teams to compete against each other. The State Cup sits within the Netball WA Competition Pathway and is one of the viewing points to move into the next level of programs and pathways. There are many performance areas to which Coaches, Umpires, and Players from Associations in the region may be selected. We congratulate and celebrate the success of these individuals who through hard work and determination have been selected into the next performance levels. We thank the Associations and the many others who have assisted them, from their family though to their coaches and mentors that supported and guided them on their journey.
The Department of Local Government Sports and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) works collaboratively with government, community organisations, peak bodies and other stakeholders to achieve their vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive and connected WA community. DLGSC as a Major Partner of Netball WA provide funding to assist in the areas of governance, risk management, development and marketing. Athletes, coaches and umpires who meet criteria may be eligible for DLGSC funding in one or all, of the following: Regional Athlete Support Program The Regional Athlete Support Program establishes a state-wide network supporting regional-based talented athletes, coaches and officials which allows athletes to continue their development and progress along the athlete pathway from their home environment. The North West has 2 programs: o Broome Sports Association o Pilbara Academy of Sport Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme provides funding assistance to regional Western Australian athletes who aspire to reach their full sporting potential. The funding is provided by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). Athletes must meet the defined categories and be approved by DLGSC & NWA to receive funding. Click here for information North West Travel Subsidy – Kimberley & Pilbara North West Travel Subsidy assists young athletes from the North West with travel costs. It aims to encourage participation in identified sport and recreation activities for athletes living in the regions of the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne. North West Travel Subsidy is not an open funding scheme and is only available to athletes by way of application from their Regional or State Sporting Association or another relevant not-for-profit organisation approved by the department. Click here for information KidSport KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5 to 18 years to participate in community sport by offering them financial assistance of up to $150 per calendar year towards club fees.
