Female leaders from across the community gathered last Friday at East Perth Football Club to share experiences and reflect on the challenges that they face as women in leadership roles.
Proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Women in Leadership forum featured Netball WA board member Emma Chinnery, Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz, and Netball Australia Deputy Chief Executive, Nadine Cohen.
An initiative of Netball WA and Glass Jar Australia, Shooting Stars is achieving positive outcomes for Aboriginal girls and women across Western Australia.
Shooting Stars Executive Officer, Fran Haintz, has over 25 years’ experience in rural and remote Indigenous communities, non-government organisations, small business in corporate Australia, along with a history of involvement in Netball at all levels from grassroots, through to the Board of Netball WA.
Shooting Stars aims to use netball as a vehicle to drive outcomes, encouraging greater engagement and attendance at school for young Aboriginal girls living in WA’s regional and remote communities.
“We work with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in some of the most disadvantaged communities in Western Australia,” said Haintz.
“We take the approach of strength – our girls are strong, our girls are valuable and they’re really, really important.
“Our team is equally as important in our work. 85% of our workforce are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, who are leading the program.
“This program is about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls.”
