The Australian Men’s Team travelled to Johannesburg at the end of January for their first Test of 2026, finding success in their three matches.
As the only West Australian in the squad, Dravyn said the whole experience was memorable, not just for their success on the court.
“South Africa was incredible. The culture, the landscape, and the people were all so special,” he said.
“I felt incredibly grateful to be immersed in such a unique environment, both on and off the court.”
Despite now representing his country, Dravyn didn't see a real pathway for himself until he was 16.
“Growing up, there weren’t a lot of opportunities available for me in Men’s Netball,” he said.
“It wasn’t until I was around 16 when I was able to start playing in the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League. I discovered West Coast Thunder and began to see a real pathway and progression in the sport.”
What makes Dravyn stand out on court is his versatile skill set and ability to adapt, with a unique ability to defend and shoot.
“I was first selected for the Kelpies in 2022 as a defender and in 2024 I transitioned into the shooting end,” he said.
“Since then, I've been a regular member of the squad which has been incredibly rewarding.”
Dravyn also plays for the West Coast Warriors in the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League and is a West Coast Fever training partner. The Kelpies visited Perth for their final camp before South Africa, allowing Dravyn to combine his two netball families.
“Bringing the Kelpies and Fever environments together meant a lot to me, they’re two teams that have had a huge influence on my netball development and have also shaped me as a person,” he said.
After an impressive performance in Game Three, he earnt Player of the Match, a huge effort in only his second international tour in the Goal Attack bib.
“I still very much see myself as a developing player in that position, so receiving player of the match was a huge privilege,” he said.
“Our squad is filled with some of the best netballers in the world, so that recognition gave me confidence that I’m progressing in the right direction.”
As well as memories made on the court, Dravyn and the squad were able to enjoy their time as tourists as well.
“We were lucky enough to go on a safari, which was one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had,” he said.
“Netball South Africa also hosted an opening ceremony featuring several cultural performances, which was incredibly special to witness and added so much to the overall experience.
“It was an experience I’ll carry with me for a long time.”
