Netball WA Chief Executive Officer Simone Hansen said the clear benefits of Wednesday night matches made it an easy decision.
“One of our clear goals is to raise the profile of the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League and we strongly believe Wednesday evenings provide us with the perfect platform to highlight the strength of the league,” Hansen said.
“We hope that fans will now be able to enjoy Western Australia's premier netball league both in-venue but also at home via Seven West’s Streamer platform.
“While 2024 was the year of the Western Roar, there has been a great deal of player movement and promotion of young home-grown talent, which will no doubt make the competition across the Open, Men’s and 21/U division very interesting.”
Round One commences tomorrow night, Wednesday, 5 March, and all matches across the three divisions will be played at the Gold Netball Centre. Two matches from the Open Division will be streamed via Seven West’s Streamer platform.
First up Rangers and West Coast Warriors will open the season as the Warriors unveil new recruit and former Queensland Firebird Beryl Friday. While Rangers will head into the contest with a refreshed lineup as six new players take to the court.
In a replay of last season’s preliminary final, the Fremantle Sharks will be looking to reverse the result as they take on the Comets in the second streamed match.
The Comets will be bolstered by the return of Sloan Burton from Team Bath in the UK, while the Sharks welcome former Peel Lightning shooter Kasey Ridout to strengthen their attack.
GIG WANL will once again be broadcast on Seven West’s Streamer platform, with two games featuring every round. Fans are able to watch matches live and free, as well as playback of their favourite moments.
