Round Two was a night of fierce competition across the Open League, with many teams showing off just how hard they worked in pre-season.

Southside Demons 69 defeat Souwest Jets 31

The Southside Demons sit undefeated at the commencement of Round Two, following their 38-goal win over the Souwest Jets.

It was the Demons game from beginning to end, their strength in goals from Georgia Pitt (27), Club captain Meg Gallager (22), Georgia Etrridge (17) and Lola Collard (three) essential to such success.

Kate Bunten has returned to the game in 2025 following injury and was fierce in turning the ball over in the mid-court in the Wing Defence bib.

Despite the loss, the Jets will be proud of their efforts last night, already seeing an improvement in team connection.

The side had a strong ability to turn the ball over and move it to circle edge just weren’t able to convert it into goals.

Isabel Spry, in her first year of the Open League was essential to the Jets containing the efforts of Gallager. Hannah O’Donnell and Alexandra Holdcroft completed the circle defence and were crucial to the side.

Peel Lightning 55 defeat Rangers 40

Peel Lightning secured their first win of the season in Round Two, the phenomenal shooting efforts of Chelsea Cook’s 39 goals cementing control of the scoreboard.

Lightning’s ability to utilise their experience with players like captain Rebecca Nitschke, Rebecca Lill and Kasey Miegel on court brought them control over the young Rangers side.

Despite the loss, the young side’s attack was strong as they fought back for a four-goal win in the final quarter. Aisha Morcombe (21) and Abbey Hicks (18) were solid in converting the efforts of their team into goals.

Comets 45 defeat West Coast Warriors 41

The West Coast Warriors put their best foot forward in Round Two, impressing the crowd by holding the 2024 runners up in such a tight battle.

Comets Liz Dronfield and Mia Henderson were working hard during the second and third quarter whilst the Warriors fought for the lead.

Clara Wigley’s ability to find ball and move off her player for the intercept at the perfect time was consistently impressive.

Warrior Jamaica Jauncey (30) and Comet Madeline Ash (29) were competitive on either end of the court, tying up the game after close leads.

It was the Comets who were able to sneak through in the final minutes for the four goal lead, but the Warriors have proved just how competitive they will be this season.

Western Roar 48 defeat Fremantle Sharks 38

The Western Roar have demonstrated that they have no intention of slowing down after their dominance in 2024.

Sharks captain Jessica Penny was vital in the GK bib, her ability to find ball and deliver intercepts putting a shock to Roar’s systems.

Roar demonstrated the talent of their programs, with 21/U athletes Teddi Lowe, Emily Rivers and Kate Cunningham slotting in seamlessly to the Open League.

Ultimately, Roar were able to hold their composure and pace throughout the game and took their lead in the last quarter, advanced by shooting duo Sophia Lamers (29) and Asha Parsons (18).
