The Origin State Cup provides players, coaches and umpires in the Fever In Time program an opportunity to compete as well as giving Netball WA Talent Coaches a chance to scout rising stars.
16/U and 14s teams will be formed from Metropolitan and Regional Fever In Time Squads.
Umpires and coaches will also have the opportunity to show off their skills on the side of the court and gain exposure to high level competition.
Regional players have been working hard to develop their skills under the guidance of the Netball WA Development and Officials Coordinators.
This year, some of regional Western Australia’s best talents will be working alongside the metropolitan teams rather than against them. The metropolitan teams and regional invitees have been training at the Gold Netball Centre since August.
The sessions have included on-court training and off-court education provided by West Coast Fever High Performance staff.
In the lead up to the tournament, all players from across the regions will get an opportunity to experience training at the Gold Netball Centre in a hub day.
The competition will also work as a viewing platform for West Coast Fever Talent Coaches to identify registered players to trial for the 17/U West Coast Fever Futures.
Netball WA Pathway Lead – Performance and Pathway Janine Birkett said the Origin State Cup was a great opportunity for Western Australia’s talent pathways to shine.
“The Origin State Cup provides a really valuable chance for players, umpires and coaches to come together and gain experience in a highly competitive environment,” she said.
“Not only is the competition an important occasion for on-court and courtside talent, but it also gives Netball WA and West Coast Fever an insight into emerging talent moving through the pathway programs.
“It’s been really pleasing to see the integration of metropolitan and regional players so far this year and Netball WA is proud to be offering a program that is beneficial to the teams both on and off the court.
“We have enjoyed great success in previous years at the Origin State Cup and with this competition now aligned more closely with the Performance and Pathway Department, we look forward to its continued growth.”
More information including team announcements will be released soon.
