Western Australia’s Marie Little OAM Shield team has finished fifth at this year’s competition, held at the Queensland State Netball Centre over the weekend.
WA started the tournament off strong with a close game against Queensland and a 16-goal win against the Northern Territory on Saturday.
Day two of the competition saw WA up against some strong teams in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, however produced a win against the ACT with an overwhelming 35-goal victory.
WA secured fifth place as they defeated NT, 22 – 12, in the finals.
Head Coach Amy Fuller said she’s incredibly proud of how her team performed.
“I am so proud of the team and how they conducted themselves over the tournament,” said Fuller.
“It was definitely pleasing to see the improvement within our team, particularly in our attacking end where we were able to score more freely, and also reduce the margin against stronger sides like Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.”
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth congratulated the team on their efforts over the weekend.
“The Marie Little Shield is a fantastic event that showcases the positive impact our sport has on those with an intellectual disability,” said Booth.
“On behalf of Netball WA, I want to congratulate Amy Fuller, her coaching and support staff and her athletes on another successful Marie Little Shield. It’s great to see the improvement year on year and they should be proud of the way they represented our State.”
