Volunteers are being thanked for their support to the game of netball during this year’s National Volunteer Week running from 15 to 21 May.

More than 10,000 volunteers help their netball clubs and associations through supporting their local teams and competitions.

The vast majority of netball clubs are run by hard working volunteers who help out with both on and off court responsibilities. Volunteers assist in many ways such as coaching and coordinating teams at a club level as well as keeping matches on track with umpiring, scoring and timekeeping.

Events like community competitions could not happen without the selfless work of volunteers, even West Coast Fever events rely on volunteers to help game days go smoothly.

National Volunteer Week 2023 has the theme of The Change Makers celebrating those driving change in their communities with roughly three million people volunteering for sports organisations across the country.

Netball WA Community Netball General Manager Beth Harvey said the organisation is extremely grateful to everyone who finds the time to help their local team.

“We want to give a big thank you to all our volunteers across our 73 associations from Esperance to Kununurra,” Harvey said.

“They really keep netball running and we wouldn’t survive without them.”
