The top three teams were given a run for their money this week, with their opponents reminding them how close the competition is.

Demons 66 defeated Rangers 51

Southside Demons came into Round 8 with the intent to win, taking the first quarter by 10 goals.

Rangers found their momentum in the second quarter, scoring evenly with the Demons, and beating them by three goals in the third. The Demons ended the game how they started it, taking the fourth quarter by eight.

Demon Meg Gallager was the ultimate star of the game, the highest scorer of the division in Round 8 with 45 goals. Milestone athlete Nikala Cox scored 17 during her 100th GIG WANL match, and Georgia Ettridge assisted with four.

Ranger Georgia Pitt secured 25 goals for the side, alongside Kimberley Burton’s 18 and Kathryn Byrne and Abbey Hicks with four.

The two sides are only separated on the ladder by percentage, with Demons sitting at fourth and Rangers fifth.

Sharks 48 defeated Lightning 46

The Fremantle Sharks took another very close win this season, a team who seems to thrive under pressure.

In Mandurah, the home side came out firing, winning the first quarter by five and no doubt giving the Sharks a shock start. Lightning’s Kasey Ridout took home 34 goals and was assisted by Rebecca Lill’s eight and Cherie Miller’s four.

The Sharks shooting was shared evenly between Larissa Harrison and Sophie Eastaugh, both athletes scoring 24 goals, with Eastaugh’s last two in the final minute to claim victory.

Roar 54 defeated Warriors 41

The West Coast Warriors jumped the ladder leading Western Roar to hold a four-goal lead at quarter time in their Round 8 clash.

After the surprising start, Roar found their groove and went on to win the following three quarters.

Warrior Jamaica Jancey holds her own each week for the team taking 25 goals, combined with Hana Stokes 10 and Emily Dwyer’s six.

The undefeated Roar were championed by Sophia Lamers highest score this season at 35, as well as Asha Parsons 18 and Teagan Begovic who scored a goal on her Open debut.

Comets 70 defeated Jets 47

A second home game in a row for the Jets in Waroona and at quarter time it looked like their home court was a good luck charm.

The Comets, who sit second on the ladder to the Jets eighth, were only up by two goals in the first quarter.

The Comets then won the next three quarters to get their big winning margin.

Jet Rylee Hall once again scored in the big leagues with 33 goals in tandem with teammates Brooke Gibson’s 10 and Bianca Grickage’s four.

The Comets squad saw Madeline Ash score 27 goals, Giselle Taylor 24 and Emma Cosh with 19, an exciting trio who have really come together in the last couple of weeks.
