All three divisions were back in action at the Gold Netball Centre for Round 6 and it made for an entertaining night of netball.

Roar 51 defeated Comets 45

The highly anticipated Grand Final rematch between the top two teams certainly did not disappoint. Heading into Round 6, both teams were undefeated and separated on the ladder merely by percentage. The first half was incredibly close, with both teams evenly scoring in the first quarter and Roar only leading by one goal at half time.

The missing presence of shooting superstar Aitaua Enari, who injured her knee at the National Netball Championships, was no doubt going to hinder the Comets performance. Duo Emma Cosh and Madeline Ash didn’t let the loss of their teammate get in the way, and they were very impressive in their abilities to keep their side in the game. The Comets took a three-goal lead into three quarter time, but it just wasn’t enough to get them over the line.

Roar fought hard for their win in the last quarter, scoring eight more goals than the Comets to guarantee their win. Sophia Lamers was consistent in the circle with her 31 goals, paired with West Coast Fever Training Partner Emma Putt’s 23, and assisted by Asha Parsons four.

Lightning 50 defeated Demons 48

The Open division is nothing if not consistent with their close margin wins, the Lightning managing to scrape through with their first win of the season against the Demons on Friday night.

The Demons first quarter started out slow, going down by four at quarter time. They found their groove by the second quarter though with Meg Gallager’s 21 goals, Ashleigh Neal’s 19 and Nikala Cox’s eight crucial to the close game.

Lightning’s Kasey Ridout’s 36 goals were extremely important to their win, alongside Rebecca Lill’s 14, the Lightning’s first quarter set them up to secure the win. The rest of the game was very tight between the two, the two teams found themselves drawn with two and a half minutes remaining in the game. It was the last three goals by Ridout and Lill that guaranteed their win.

Sharks 55 defeated Jets 43

Round 6 was another win on the board for the third place Sharks, a squad who are having a great season so far. GIG WANL veteran Larrissa Harrison once again brought her A game with 27 goals alongside the consistent Sophie Eastaugh with 28. The duo is proving to be very valuable to the Sharks.

The Jets played a commendable game, keeping the margin close in every quarter except the third where they let themselves down. Rylee Hall comes out each week and fights hard for her team, pairing well with Brooke Gibson and Kate Kimberley this week in goals.

Rangers 64 defeated Warriors 38

The Rangers had a great game on Friday night, proving to be a dependable team week after week. Managing an impressive winning margin, Georgia Pitt’s 34 goals, Abbey Hicks 23 and Kimberley Burton’s seven proved to be the winning formula against the Warriors this week.

Despite the best efforts of Warrior Jamaica Jauncey’s 27 goals, it just wasn’t the squad’s week in Round 6. Club legend Steph Cooper ran out for her 100th game, and despite playing Goalkeeper for four quarters, swapped into Shooter in the last quarter to score two goals in her milestone game.

Don’t miss Round 7 kicking off Friday 26 April, or catch the action on Streamer.
