Jess has stuck with the Sharks her whole career, staying with the Coastal Sharks after their triumphant 2018 GIG WANL season as they transformed into the East Freo side.
The Club’s Inaugural Captain said the milestone provided a chance to reflect on her GIG WANL Career.
“It definitely makes me feel old, it's been nine years roughly,” she said.
“It is good to see how far the Sharks have come over that time and to be with the same club the whole time is pretty good.”
Jess’ presence has been well known in the league as she was named in the 2015, 2018 and 2020 GIG WANL Team of the Year.
Her talent has been recognised with higher honours as she was selected as a West Coast Fever Training Partner in both 2018 and 2019.
She was also a member of the West Coast Fever Reserves (formerly the Western Sting) between 2017 and 2020 competing in the Australian Netball League. The highlight being part of the Sting’s maiden premiership in 2017.
Jess said she has seen herself grow through the competition and the competition grow around her.
“I definitely think I’ve become more of a leader. I've gotten stronger, I was a little gangly, tall person when I was younger. Now I’m also a lot smarter with what I do on the court,” she said.
“The game has changed 100 per cent, opportunities the girls now get through the academies and the facilities, even having the Gold Netball Centre, is huge compared to what we used to play back in the day on a Tuesday night.”
She said the most rewarding part of her journey has been seeing her club and teammates grow around her.
“I'm just happy that they still want me there,” she said.
“I obviously won’t be around forever so it’s great seeing the new list come through. With the new vice-captains in the leadership group, I am enjoying being around the future of the club and being able to help out and mentor them.”
Jess now has her sights set on going all the way this season. Her team are currently fourth on the ladder on 12 points and only behind the second and third place team on percentage.
“To make finals is the biggest thing. Finishing in the top four and having a strong finals series and then hopefully being in the Grand Final and bring back the medal,” she said.
