The Men’s division had a bye this week due to the Australian Men’s & Mixed Netball Association National Championships, but they will be back and ready to go next week.
Warriors 45 defeated Lightning 38
Despite the Warriors seven-goal win, the first Opens game of the round was a close one. Warrior Jamaica Jauncey produced another impressive performance with 33 goals, an asset to her team. The Warriors won every quarter but the last, and despite the Lightning outscoring them in the fourth quarter they still managed to hold onto their win.
Due to the AMMNA National Championships and injuries leaving an absence in their list, the Lightning were able to elevate two 21/U players into their Opens squad for the week. Congratulations to Lara Anstiss and Alex Broniecki for their league Debuts.
Kasey Miegel started the game with a bang, taking an intercept off the first centre pass. Lightning was able to consistently turn over the ball but just couldn’t find their own momentum to lead until the last quarter.

Rangers 54 defeated Jets 41
The Rangers led every quarter of their win over the Jets, dominating the ball. The responsibility of shooting was shared in the Rangers squad. Georgia Pitt scored 26 goals and was assisted by Emily Cramon (16), Kathryne Bryne (9) and Kimberly Burton (3).
Jet Rylee Hall fights hard for her team every week, scoring 33 goals. The Jets are still yet to win a game this season, but they work fiercely every week to keep that margin as close as possible, showing determination and grit.

Comets 60 defeated Sharks 59
The Comets and Sharks match-up was one to watch, with the Comets only cementing their win in the last minute. Comet Aitaua Enari is a superstar and finished with 38 goals this week, paired with Emma Cosh who added 22 goals of her own. The Comets were in danger of losing the game for the first three quarters, but they made it right when the game was on the line, winning the fourth quarter by eight.
The talent of this league is demonstrated by how close the games are between the top teams. This is the Sharks first loss for 2024, and another tight margin that proves they won’t go down to their opponents easily. Larrissa Harrison played her 150th GIG WANL game and smashed it out of the park with her 42 goals, a fantastic way to celebrate her commitment to the game.
Roar 58 defeated Demons 51
Roar are proving why they were the 2023 minor premiers as they continue to put wins on the board. Sophia Lamers had a fantastic game with 34 goals along with Emma Putt’s 24. Roar face their biggest competition yet next game when they face off against the Comets with only percentage separating the teams.
The Demon’s defence was strong throughout the game, frequently turning the ball over in the circle, making Roar work extra hard for earn their win. The Demons’ shooting was championed by Ashleigh Neal’s 22 goals and supported by Meg Gallager (18) and Nikala Cox (11).
Another talented family faced off against each other this week, with the Turnbull sisters facing off in the midcourt with the Roar’s Britanny taking on Demon Montana.
This weekend will be without the 21/U and Open’s divisions due to many talented GIG WANL athletes flying to Victoria to compete in the National Netball Championships.
Don’t worry you don’t have to go without your Friday night netball, you can catch the Men’s division at Gold Netball Centre or on Streamer from 6:30pm.
