Match of the Week: Comets make an impact

A fiery affair between the Curtin Hamersley Comets and the East Freo Sharks saw Comets rocket to the finish with a final score of 58 – 43 in Round 2 of the GIG WANL season on Friday, May 6.

Game highlights:

GS Larrisa Harrison for the East Freo Sharks scored a goal on the quarter-time siren giving Sharks the lead at the first break.

Comets GS Aitua Enari made a big impact on the score board with 38 of the final 58 goals to her name.

Quarter 1:

Comets were slow to start, giving Sharks a 3-goallead early on in the first.

Both teams fought hard to maintain possession of the ball with plenty of movement in the centre court.

Goals were hard to find in this very competitive first quarter however, Sharks lead by one with a score of 11 – 10 coming into the first break.

Quarter 2:

Comets started the second term in a new gear, making some aggressive plays right off the whistle and seeingSharks losing their early lead.

Taking advantage of every turnover, Comets managed to convert these into goals taking them into the half time break with a score of 21-26.

Quarter 3:

Bringing their momentum into the second half, Comets baited the Sharks with well disguised passes between the shooters in the goal circle.

Not looking to go down without a fight, Sharks gave Comets the run-around in the centre third, passing the ball sideline to sideline.

Despite great pressure from Sharks, Comets held their own, widening their lead to 43 - 34 before the final quarter.

Quarter 4:

All systems were go for both teams in the last term, with plenty of intercepts by both sides.

Sharks’ speed in the goal third turned to chaos, which allowed Comets’ defenders easy pickings.

Sharks settled down their passes and began to claw back their goals however, in the end, were beaten by the buzzer.

The Curtin Hammersley Comets starred in this game, winning by a 15 goal margin.
