The Gold Industry Group WA Netball League has passed the halfway mark of the regular season with results in the Open, 20/U and Men’s Divisions all having an impact on teams’ finals hopes.

In the Open Division, the Rangers secured a surprise win against top of the table Western Roar, who couldn’t keep up in a 10-goal loss.

A strong start for the Rangers gave them a five-goal buffer after the first quarter and the team didn’t let up as they won the next two terms.

Roar put up a noble fight in the final term but they couldn’t come back from the deficit piled on thanks to 31 goals at 86 per cent by Rangers Captain Georgia Pitt. The win keeps Rangers in touch with the top four at the midway point of the season.

Demons claimed a big win over Peel as they romped to a 64-48 victory. Despite the 16-goal final margin, Peel gave the eventual victors a run for their money, coming within five goals at three quarter time.

Demons then ran home with the game, repeatedly intercepting in Peel’s offensive third and giving little away when they had possession. Chelsea Cook was a reliable target for the Demons as she top scored with 22 goals.

The win saw the Demon’s take the top spot in the Open Division, one game clear of Roar, Comets and Sharks.

In the 20/U Division, the Sharks brushed off a tough challenge from the Comets, who featured WA State 17/U Team Captain and 17/U Australian Pathway Squad Member Clara Wigley.

The teams were evenly poised in the opening passage of play with the Comets’ intelligent feeding into the circle matching the Sharks’ efficiency with the ball.

After the early tussle, Sharks were able to get ahead of the game, managing to win all but the last quarter.

Comets’ showed a lot of grit as they won the final quarter despite Goal Shooter Jamaica Jauncey having to come off the court with an ankle injury after scoring 34 goals at 92 per cent.

Roar once again left the Gold Netball Centre with a big victory over the Rangers to continue their perfect season.

They blew away their opposition, scoring 20 goals in both the first and second quarters and restricting their rivals to less than 10 goals in every term.

Roar also took home a big win in the Men’s Division as they dominated their encounter with the Demons 75-35. While the Warriors defeated the Comets to stay one game behind Roar on the ladder.

Round 7 was Belt Up Round with teams wearing special warm up tops to help promote the road safety message.
