Netball WA continues to create opportunities and pathways for male athletes, with the growth of the GIG WANL League from four teams to six in recent years an example of such commitment.
Netball WA General Manager Performance and Pathway Sue Gaudion said Netball WA is committed to the growth of Men’s Netball in the State, with the expansion allowing more male athletes to play at a higher level.
“There is so much talent currently coming through the Men’s and Boys’ netball pathways and we are looking forward to continuing to witness the growth and opportunities for Men and Boys to play our sport and push to achieve their netballing dreams,” Gaudion said.
Peel Lightning President Deb Clancy said joining the Men’s Division marked a new exciting chapter for the Club and the Peel Region.
“Expanding into Men’s netball represents a significant step forward in our commitment to inclusivity, growth and opportunity within the sport,” she said.
“We’re especially proud to be extending these opportunities within the Peel Region, where we hope to inspire more young men to take up netball, whether competitively or recreationally.
“It’s an exciting time for Lightning, and we look forward to the positive impact this will have not only on our club, but on the wider netball community.”
Peel Lightning Head Coach Lisa Mackenzie said the Club was excited by the addition of a Men’s team, enhancing their inclusive, united and positive culture.
“The opportunity for our female athletes to train alongside and match play against the men will challenge and develop them individually, whilst also bringing another level of standards, athleticism and energy throughout all our teams and the whole club,” she said.
The Peel Lightning Men’s Team will commence in the WA Netball League Men’s Division from Round One 2026 alongside existing clubs: Comets, Southside Demons, Rangers, West Coast Warriors and Western Roar.
