Northern Star Resources took out the premier honours defeating AngloGold Ashanti Australia in a grand final showdown at the inaugural Gold Industry Group (GIG) Corporate Netball Challenge on Friday.

Hosted by Netball WA, the Challenge pitted GIG members against GIG members and friends against friends, in a series of matches to crown the best gold industry corporate netball team of the day.

With coaching from West Coast Fever athletes and leadership, 12 GIG teams from Gold Fields, Saracen Mineral Holdings, Newcrest Mining, Northern Star Resources, Newmont Goldcorp Corporation, Ramelius Resources, AngloGold Ashanti Australia and The Perth Mint put their competitive spirit on show at the world-class Gold Netball Centre.

Northern Star Resources captain Rebecca Ciotti said the inaugural event was a fantastic way to celebrate the industry’s long-term partnership with netball in Western Australia.

“The team, including a competitive player in Executive Chairman Bill Beament, are delighted to have taken out honours in the inaugural year of the competition.

“The games were played in great spirit – we really enjoyed hitting the court with our industry colleagues in such a great format and with support from the Fever players,” she said.

Northern Star Resources didn’t drop a game all day, as Fever centre Jess Anstiss coached the group to glory over Olivia Lewis’ AngloGold Ashanti Australia team. The teams then joined Netball WA and West Coast Fever in a sundowner to celebrate the day and reflect on the first year in partnership.

The Most Valuable Player went to AngloGold Ashanti’s defender Peter Nazzari and the best dressed team was Gold Fields’ Granny’s Got Game.

West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich said the event was a great opportunity to engage with Fever’s Elite Partner, the Gold Industry Group.

“We were really excited to meet more of our Gold Industry Group family,” said Marinkovich.

“The Corporate Netball Day is a great way for us to engage with the gold industry community and build strong relationships.

“The Gold Industry Group is committed to investing in netball in our State, at both the grassroots and elite level, and we’re incredibly proud to walk side by side with them to grow our game.”

The Gold Industry Group is proud to support netball in Western Australia, as the Principal Partner of Netball WA, Elite Partner of West Coast Fever and Premier Partner of Shooting Stars; thanks to members Gold Fields, Northern Star Resources, Saracen Mineral Holdings, Newcrest Mining, St Barbara Limited, Newmont Goldcorp Australia, AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Gold Road Resources and Ramelius Resources.
