After two bumper days of Netball at the Geraldton Netball Association, it was North Midlands A Team who took home the Open Women’s Division at the Midwest Gascoyne Regional Championships presented by CBH Group.

A record 41 teams participated over the weekend with all of the region’s associations represented in competition for the first time in its history. Both Exmouth and Turquoise Coast made their debuts, fielding teams in the 16/U Division.

North Midlands were the only association to win multiple times, adding a successful 12/U Division 2 premiership to their Open trophy.

After staying undefeated after the group stage, North Midlands A played Northampton A who also had a perfect record in the final. North Midlands were able to scrape over the line after a tough match and come the final whistle, they had secured silverware 20-18.

Kalbarri fielded an Open Division team after a few years out of the competition and managed to pick up two wins. The first was against North Midlands B in their final group stage game and then against the Aztecs in the seventh-place play-off.

Pumas Netball Club took out the 16/U Division with a confident 26-18 win over the Falcons. The Geraldton-based team had a dominant weekend, winning four of their games by more than 25 goals.

It was Falcons Netball Club who prevailed in the 14/U Division as they only dropped one game on their way to the title. While it was Lightning who beat them in Round One, when the two sides came together in the Grand Final, the Falcons ran away with the victory 20-5.

The region’s youngest players also got a taste of the championships in the Mixed Go Division made up of nine to 10 year olds. The four teams played six games each over the two days with St Francis finishing undefeated on top.

The 12/U Division 1 Final came down to Kazuals Netball and Allendale but the former got the edge and won with a comfortable 39-13 scoreline. Despite the 26-goal difference, Allendale could still boast being the only team to record double digits against Kazuals Netball.

A Boys exhibition match featured during the weekend for the first time, showcasing the growing participation of boys in Netball.

The championships was also an important event for talent identification and accreditation with six umpires receiving their National C Badge across the two days.
