The 2020 No Limits competition is set to take place at the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships at the Wembley Sports Park this Sunday.
Arguably the highlight of the three-day tournament, the No Limits competition provides an opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities to participate in a competitive environment that promotes social inclusion and participation.
Established in 2015 with just four teams competing, the 2020 edition will see seven teams compete from four Associations across the day.
2019 saw the Red Devils from Southern Districts Netball Association take out a landslide victory over Wanneroo with a 12-goal win.
Southern Districts Development Officer and No Limits Coordinator, Bev Gallagher said it means the world for the No Limits players to be able to play netball at a competitive level.
“We do a lot of training leading up to the Championships and all they want to do is get out on the court and play netball and it’s great for them to have the opportunity to play against different teams,” said Gallagher.
“Here at Southern Districts, we’re a big family! All of our Association representatives train alongside one another, including the No Limits players which gives a real sense of belonging for everybody.”
“We’ve been submitting teams for the No Limits Division since 2016, and to see how much these players have developed is incredible. We’ve had players join who are virtually non-verbal and to see their confidence grow to the point where they are now communicating on and off the court is fantastic.”
“It helps develop the players’ coordination, it builds camaraderie and ultimately brings out the players’ personality.”
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth said netball is all about inclusivity.
“The Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships has become one of Netball WA’s flagship events and it’s brilliant to see this competition continue to build in the inclusion space,” said Booth.
“Our sport is capable of achieving so much and in order to achieve our purpose of Advancing Netball and Advancing Communities it’s imperative that everyone has the opportunity to participate in and share the love of our great sport.”
