Already a member of the WA Sport Hall of Champions, Gaye will join an exclusive group of just 17 other athletes who have achieved Legend status, placing her among the State’s greatest sporting figures.
Gaye is an icon of netball in Western Australia, as both a player and coach. A former state and national player and coach, she is the only player developed in Western Australia to captain a winning World Championship team.
Gaye represented Australia at three World Championships, earning 17 Test caps. She helped develop WA talent through coaching roles at the Australian Institute of Sport before returning home to lead the Perth Orioles from 1999 to 2002. She also coached the Western Australian Institute of Sport squad and later oversaw Netball WA’s high-performance pathway.
After retiring from full-time coaching, she continued supporting WA netball through coach education, mentoring and the Fever in Time program. Her honours include induction into the Netball Australia Hall of Fame in 2009 and Hall of Champions recognition as an individual in 1989 and in the team category in 2018.
In February this year, Gaye was also awarded the May Campbell Medal for Service to Sport, recognising her lifetime commitment to netball.
Netball WA proudly congratulates Gaye on this incredible achievement and thanks her for her immeasurable contribution to the sport. She will officially be recognised at the WA Sport Hall of Champions induction dinner in November.
