Netball WA is set to host 97 teams at the Wembley Sports Park for the 2020 Multicultural Carnival on Friday.
The one-day tournament invites schools from across WA to participate in celebrating players from a wide range of ethnicities, whilst encouraging the development of their netball skills in a fun and supportive environment.
The Carnival remains popular within the netball community and numbers are strong this year with more than 26 schools participating, including the Australian Islamic College, Ellenbrook Secondary College, Belridge Secondary College, Ashdale Secondary College as well as Willetton Primary School and Newton Moore Girls Academy, travelling up from Bunbury.
The 2020 edition will see a Secondary Boys Division implemented for the first time, with five teams set to compete.
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth, said it was a highlight on the netball calendar.
“In its short history, the Multicultural Carnival has grown to reflect the ethnically diverse state of WA, and we are incredibly proud to host the many cultures of our community.”
“We work hard every year to ensure all cultural requirements are met so that all players feel welcome and encouraged.”
“Adding the Secondary Boys Division is very exciting! By growing the inclusivity of this Carnival and our sport it supports the organisation in achieving our vision, to be the sport of choice in Western Australia.”
The 2020 Multicultural Carnival will run from 9am – 2:30pm at the Wembley Sports Park on Friday, August 30.
