The No Limits Competition featured two divisions of six teams, made up of players with an intellectual disability and provided valuable experience of playing sport in a competitive setting.
This was the eighth year of the No Limits Competition and showed off great energy among competitors and coaches.
A mix of metropolitan and regional teams competed with Leschenault and Geraldton joining the Perth-based teams.
Rockingham Breakers were competing for the very first time and despite coming into the tournament hoping for just one win, the team made it to the Grand Final and finished runners-up.
Netball WA General Manager – Community Netball Beth Harvey said the success of the No Limits Competition showed off the diversity within Netball.
“The No Limits Competition has been a great initiative for a number of years now and I’m pleased to see how it has been embraced again this year,” Harvey said.
“Giving everyone a chance to play Netball is so important and to have both metro and regional teams competing together shows how this initiative has been recognised across the State.”
Boys teams also featured in the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships and showcased the bright future of Men’s Netball in WA.
Five teams from four associations competed with Wanneroo, Kalamunda, Eastern Hills and Southern Districts all fielding teams. Many of the games were close affairs with five of them being decided by three goals or less. Each team picked up at least one win.
It was a Kalamunda derby in the Grand Final which was ultimately decided by a single goal, showing off how competitive the division was. The game was extremely close throughout but thanks to an intercept for Kalamunda-1 they were able to take home the win.
Building off the success of the Boys Divisions, there will be a Boys Association Competition later in the year to give more opportunities to the growing number of boys wanting to play netball competitively.
Harvey said the success of the Boys Divisions showed the future of Boys and Men’s Netball was in safe hands.
“To see the Boys Division flourish has been great and it’s an area of Netball we’re very excited to continue building in the future,” she said.
“Having these competitions in the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships gives these young players a real opportunity to play competitive Netball and foster a love for the sport.
“With such high spirits across the weekend, it’s not hard to see how much enthusiasm there is for the Men’s side of Netball.”
