More than 4,200 players and officials will compete in the three-day competition which has been running since the 1950s, with an additional 3,000 spectators in attendance across the weekend.
In Netball WA’s Centenary Year, a key focus of the Championships will be the “History Lane” display which depicts the vast history of the sport in Western Australia. Netball WA’s Centenary book: Netball’s Century in the West: 100 years of Passion and Success will also be on sale throughout the weekend.
Netball WA General Manager – Community Beth Harvey said the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships are the marquee event on the community netball calendar and form the centrepiece of Netball WA’s Centenary celebrations in 2024.
“There is no better way to celebrate 100 years of Netball WA than to have teams, players, coaches, officials and umpires from right across the State coming to Perth to play in the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships,” Ms Harvey said.
“We are expecting more than 310 teams representing 43 Associations, ranging from as far south as Esperance to Kununurra in the north, who will compete in divisions from 12 & Under all the way to Masters with four Boys teams also competing on Saturday 1 June.
“We will once again have a No Limits Division which will feature 14 teams as part of the weekend, providing an opportunity for players with an intellectual disability to participate in a competitive environment. New entrants to this division are a team from Success Netball Association who will compete against the other No Limits teams on Sunday 2June.”
The Championships will host 16 Invitational teams travelling to Perth from Singapore, as well as two interstate teams from the Northern Territory.
“Netball WA would like to acknowledge our partners and supporters who help us deliver this major competition for the netball community. Netball WA would especially like to acknowledge Healthway promoting the Fuel to Go & Play message. Healthway have been a huge supporter of the Association Championships over many years which continues to grow and is now one of the largest sporting events hosted annually in WA,” Ms Harvey said.
“Thank you to our other key partners who support the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships, the Gold Industry Group, Fortescue, the Insurance Commission of Western Australia promoting the Belt Up campaign, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Town of Cambridge and the Perth Netball Association.”
