In line with the start of NAIDOC Week celebrations, we are delighted to announce the reformation of Netball WA’S Netball Aboriginal Advisory Committee (NAAC).

As Australia’s and Western Australia’s leading female sport, netball strives to deliver fair, safe, inclusive, respectful, and supportive environments for all participation of our sport. We believe that netball offers the enjoyment of participation, a sense of belonging and life-long involvement, no matter whether that is as a player, coach, official, administrator, volunteer, or fan.

Netball WA is committed to being inclusive, strengthening and building capacity and capability in communities and providing innovative and sustainable netball programs that empower women and girls, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls to ensure our purpose of “advancing netball, advancing communities” is brought to life.

The role of the Netball Aboriginal Advisory Committee (NAAC) is to provide culturally appropriate advice and recommendations on various aspects of Netball WA’s programs, competitions, and services as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The committee will play an important role in promoting the Netball WA pathways and programs through supporting the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and women in netball.

The NAAC will serve across 2021 and 2022 and is made up of three current Aboriginal Grassroots Site Coordinators, two Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community representatives, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Service Providers and two Netball WA representatives.

Netball WA is delighted to announce the following members make up the 2021/2022 NAAC:

  • Katrina Abraham (Aboriginal Grassroot Site Coordinator – Southern Districts)
  • Leanne Kickett (Aboriginal Grassroot Site Coordinator – Narrogin-Cuballing)
  • Lisa Dimer (Aboriginal Grassroot Site Coordinator - Albany)
  • Katherine Rogers (Community Representative)
  • Jareen Wyatt (Community Representative)
  • Shakayla Ugle (Netball WA)
  • Jayme Harken (Netball WA)
  • TBA – Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Service Providers

Netball WA looks forward to working with the 2021/2022 NAAC to drive better opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls in netball.

Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Shooting Stars acknowledge the traditional owners of country throughout Western Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respect to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.
