The inaugural carnival was held in Katanning in 2024, and each year the Carnival changes location through the Southern region to promote opportunities at different venues.
The Carnival forms part of Netball WA’s NAIDOC celebrations, following the 2025 theme of The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
Under pristine, sunny conditions, athletes played a series of round robin style matches in a culturally safe and fun environment.
After the success of the inaugural year, the Carnival grew by five teams in 2025, with 22 teams from Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton and Katanning participating.
Netball WA Participation Manager Kelly Dominiak said the event radiated joy and connection.
“Families, volunteers and spectators came together to celebrate not just netball, but the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures,” she said.
The 2025 NAIDOC Ball Design, by artist Tieralee Johns, made its debut at the Carnival to the delight of players and spectators.
The NAIDOC Carnival Busselton forms part of the Inclusive Participation Project which is made possible thanks to the support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Netball WA’s NAIDOC Presenting Partner Fortescue.
The Boorloo NAIDOC Netball Carnival will take place on Wednesday, 9 July at Gold Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association.
