Teams travelled from far and wide to attend the 2023 Boorloo NAIDOC Carnival presented by Fortescue.

More than 100 teams converged on the Gold Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association to take part in the 20th carnival which is part of Netball WA’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.

This year’s carnival was the first time Netball WA used its new name – Boorloo NAIDOC Carnival.

Netball WA CEO Simone Hansen said the change came about after extensive consultation with the Netball WA Aboriginal Advisory Committee, which determined that renaming our Perth NAIDOC Netball Carnival was the right move.

“To be able to announce this new name at the 20th carnival we have hosted a NAIDOC Netball Carnival is fitting,” Hansen said.

“This annual netball carnival first began back in 2004 with 20 teams and has now grown to include more than 100 teams each and every year. It has certainly become a major event in the Netball WA calendar.”

Hansen also acknowledged the carnival’s new Presenting Partner Fortescue.

“Fortescue joined the Netball WA and West Coast Fever community late last year and it is great to have their support of not only elite netball but also our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pathway programs,” she said.
