History was made last night, as the Peel Lightning Men's side made their competition debut

This week is Belt Up Round, thanks to the Insurance Commission of Western Australia, spreading the message of seat belt safety across the Netball WA community.

Comets 52 defeat Rangers 31

The reigning premiers proved they still have what it takes to dominate another GIG WANL season with a 21-goal win over the Rangers, winning every quarter.

Comet Madeleine Ash was the steady shooter with 30 goals, whilst Sloan Burton came on for the second half and scored 10 and elevated young gun Tess Taylor scored six.

Despite the loss, the Rangers were certainly in the contest, just struggling to convert to points on the board, whilst the work rate of captain Myra Ugle was undeniable.

Western Roar 45 defeat Souwest Jets 40

The Jets have once again found themselves in a close game with one of the games strongest side, proving how tight the Open League is this year.

Both sides got off to an even start with eight goals each in the first quarter, with Roar managing to run away by eight in the final minutes of the first half.

Jets were able to take the third quarter by one goal with some strong shooting by Meretini Fuimaono.

Ultimately, Roar were cleaner down the court, their experienced players making the right decisions to get them ahead by five.

Southside Demons 54 defeat Fremantle Sharks 50

Another tight contest for Belt Up Round, the Demons managed to run away by four goals.

Shark Aisha Morcombe scored 36 goals, adding to her growing list of individual high scoring games this season.

Indiana Squires was on fire in Wing Defence for the Sharks, easily racking up deflections.

A five-goal lead for the Demons in the second quarter was enough to guarantee the win when they continued their close fight for the rest of the match.

Belt Up Round is not over yet! Peel Lightning will host a home game this Friday against the West Coast Warriors.

MEN - The Men also kicked off their 2026 season last night!

Warriors 57 defeat Peel Lightning 41

In a historic moment, the Peel Lightning Men’s team made their GIG WANL debut during Belt Up Round.

Warriors came out swinging, taking a huge 10 goal lead in the first quarter. During the third quarter, the newest side on the block came alive, winning the term by eight and dominating down the court.

The experience and talent of the Warriors prevailed, but the knowledge that the Lightning can keep up with the top sides will be very exciting this season.
