The Men took the centre stage of the GIG WA Netball League on Friday as the Open and 21/U divisions enjoyed a break due to the National Netball Championships.

Warriors 61 defeated Rangers 55

The Warriors took down Rangers to claim their second win of the season. Both teams consisted of numerous athletes fresh off their week at the Australian Men’s & Mixed Netball Nationals.

Warriors captain Matthew Brown led his team in an extraordinary effort, with 51 goals across the game. Brown was assisted by Jayden Kahotea with eight goals and Patrick Daniel with two.

Although suffering a loss, Rangers should not be dismissed, the close nature of the game is a testament to the quality of the league.

Shooting responsibilities were shared between Jerome Gillbard with 31 goals, Luke Birnie with 11, Robin Anderson with eight and Micky Woodley with five.

Rangers took the lead in the first quarter winning by five, but the team then lost their groove until the fourth quarter which ultimately let them down.

Roar 46 defeated Comets 37

Roar and Comets sat one and two on the ladder only being separated by percentage, but it was Roar who cemented their place on top of the ladder by taking home the nine-goal win.

Max Denholm championed the team with 27 goals, Dravyn Lee-Tauroa and Stuart Dent both claimed eight and Daniel Parrella assisted with three.

Roar kept the lead in every quarter besides the third when the two sides drew. Ultimately, they handled the pressure in the fourth quarter the best, widening the margin between the two sides enough to guarantee their win.

Comet Griff Thomas kept the game close with his 26 goals, aided by Corey Goss with 10 and Marcus Cronan who crept in with his goal.

The Comets only trailed by four goals at three-quarter time, but they just couldn’t take it all the way home in the fourth.

All three divisions will be back in action on Friday 19 April at Gold Netball Centre and you can watch GIG WANL every week on Streamer.
