In the spirit of committing to supporting grassroots netball, Hyundai and Netball WA once again partnered to drive the Hyundai Community Raffle. As a result, they have been able to alleviate some financial pressure for clubs and associations in WA.
For a second year in a row, 100 per cent of proceeds from the raffle were retained by the Clubs and Associations.
Hyundai Regional General Manager of WA, Michael Beros said netball is continuing to grow in the State and Hyundai are excited to support that.
“At Hyundai, we love our community grassroots sport, especially netball,” he said.
“This is our second year of running the raffle, and having the winner come out of Bunbury is special because we know netball down there is massive.
“This year, the raffle raised over $160,000 and 100 per cent of those funds go directly back into the clubs and associations.”
The first-place prize was a Hyundai Venue 1.6L MPi ELITE 6-speed Auto, awarded to Leanne Hayhurst from Mercy Leschenault Collie Netball Club (MLC)
Leanne’s daughters have played since they were little, so she understands the importance of community clubs and the love of netball.
“My daughter came home from her Club with some tickets, and I thought absolutely I’ll buy a whole book! Lucky that I did,” she said.
“I thought it was a prank call when I answered the phone to Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and was told I had won.
“It’s a good way to support netball in WA and incredible to win a car.”
After months of hard work rallying their local community, MLC also finished the raffle on top of the leaderboard for most tickets sold, receiving a $4000 cash bonus.
Club President Denise Moyes said the raffle is the best thing you can do for your club because it brings everyone together with a teamwork element that the kids love.
“We certainly wanted to win, but we were just amazed at our families and people in our community who were willing to support us,” she said.
“Having these funds come back to us means a great deal because there is always money needed for junior sport.
“We’re a big club. There are balls and bibs to buy and it’s money to help with training and keeping our young kids in sport.”
The structure of the raffle in 2025 means that you didn’t just have to win a major prize to be rewarded.
Genesis Netball Club earnt the highest online ticket sales, receiving a bonus of $4000 on top of what they raised.
Genesis President Suzelle Oosthuizen said it was the first year the Club has taken part in the raffle, something they chose to do because it has provided them the ability to buy new resources.
“Receiving this money is amazing, it means we can do that extra bit more for the kids and treat them with things like their end of year function,” she said.
For the first time, Hyundai also ran a Community Engagement Award for both a Metro and Regional Club, who receive a $2000 bonus. The awards recognise a club or association for their community led involvement in the raffle.
Morley Districts Netball Club were awarded the Metro Award after many years of operating their club with a community first focus.
Umpire Coordinator Olivia Feszczur said the Club is one of the oldest at their Association who do everything in their power to be a not for profit.
“We try to keep prices down as much as we can and engage as many people in the Club as possible, helping to fund athletes if they need it,” she said
“It’s pretty awesome to have won this award, it’s a really great feeling to be recognised for all those unpaid purely volunteer hours that we put in.”
