Match of the week: Warriors in shining armour

Saturday night saw a nail-biting, top of the table clash between the West Coast Warriors and Western Roar with both teams going in to the fourth round undefeated.

Warriors managed to pull a repeat of last season’s grand-final result, beating Roar with a score of 56 – 35.

The match was played in Karratha following a big weekend of netball festivities in the town, supported by the State Government’s Country Sports Enrichment Scheme and the local netball community.

Rising netball stars in the community were thrilled to watch the top two teams display their skill and athleticism on court.

Highlights

West Coast Warriors defender Caitlyn Brown was at peak performance in the goal third, gaining many intercepts and touches for her team.

Quarter One

Both teams were fiercely competitive in the first quarter, with neither able to better the other.

Quick passes through the centre court by both teams awarded no advantage for either side.

Warriors beat the clock and finished ahead by one goal at 13 – 12.

Quarter Two

Roar raced into the second term, quickly turning the game in their favour.

Taking advantage of every turnover, Roar took the lead early on, however showing their strength as last season’s Premiers, Warriors brought the score back to a tie.

The score was neck-and-neck at 24 a piece at the half time break.

Quarter Three

Warriors kicked into a new gear coming into the second half of Saturday night’s game.

Building their momentum, Warriors pulled ahead to a 5 goal lead.

Roar’s formidable defence in the circle played a vital role in keeping their team on the tails of Warriors.

Patience and teamwork from the Warriors attacking end continued to chip away at Roar’s defensive wall gaining them crucial goals late in the third quarter.

Warriors led Roar 40 – 30 at three quarter time.

Quarter Four

The energy in the stadium at the start of the final term was electrifying with both teams ready to leave everything out on the court.

Warriors controlled the ball well, making some great intercepts in Roar’s goal third allowing them to further their lead.

Roar did not let Warriors’ shooters score any easy goals, putting pressure on every pass and shot.

Time was not on Roar’s side as Warriors closed the game out with a 21 goal lead.
