Match of the Week: Rangers win the fire fight

A close Tuesday night thriller between the Rangers and Curtin Hamersley Comets saw Rangers sneak to the finish at 44 – 42

Highlights

Rangers’ shooter Georgia Pitt scored 33 goals of the total 44 that won them the game.

Comets’ defender Ella Taylor was indispensable, making many consistent intercepts throughout the game.

Quarter One

Rangers had their eye on the ball at the starting whistle, gaining multiple intercepts early in the first term which allowed them to take the lead.

Comets worked hard to bring the ball through centre court against Rangers’ lively defenders.

Rangers led going in to the first break, 10-9

Quarter Two

A slower start for both teams in the second quarter with neither one able to gain an advantage.

Rangers appeared to feel the pressure with some missed passes as Comets pull ahead for the first time this game, finding a 3 goal lead.

Quarter Three

Bringing their momentum into the second half, Comets were relentless with their goals, pulling ahead to a 29-23 lead.

Comets were bringing the heat both offensively and defensively as Rangers struggled to catch up.

Comets built a 6-goal lead ahead of the final term.

Quarter Four

Rangers looked to turn things around in the final quarter, making some aggressive plays in centre court.

Rangers began to close the gap on their opponents, scoring 4 goals in quick succession with six minutes to go.

The final two minutes of the game proved to be the most decisive, with both teams fighting tooth and nail to finish the game however two quick goals later and the Rangers finished the game with a 2-goal lead.

Round Five Overview

Open’s

Roar and Demons gained substantial wins over their opponents Sharks and Lightning.

Roar V Sharks: 63-48

Demons V Lightning: 72-48

20U

Lightning and Rangers bested Demons and Comets while Roar also gained a narrow win against Sharks.

Lightning V Demons: 54-43

Rangers V Comets: 65-27

Roar V Sharks: 46-43
