Match of the Week: Straight Shooting Rangers

Rangers earned a decisive win over Lightning in Friday night’s game in Round 3 of the GIG WANL season.

Coming off the back of a narrow loss in Round 2, Rangers took to the court with confidence and finished the match with a score of 73 – 33.

Highlights

Early in the second half, Lightning defenders bring back a rarely seen defensive technique known as the ‘Harrison Lift’.

Game overview

Quarter One

Rangers beat Lightning out of the gates, gaining a 5 goal lead early in the first quarter.

Quick hands and quicker feet from Rangers centre court offered plenty of goal opportunities in the circle.

Playing by the numbers, Rangers extended their lead to 15 goals coming in to the first break.

Quarter Two

Rangers continued to dominate in the second term despite some tactical substitutions from Lightning.

Lightning worked hard through the centre, looking for space on court but were unable to break through Rangers defence.

Rangers were up 38 – 14 at the half time break.

Quarter Three

Lightning tried a new defensive strategy in the form of the ‘Harrison Lift’ in hopes of gaining an advantage over Rangers shooting.

Lightning scored 7 in the third quarter while Rangers scored 18.

Quarter Four

Lightning picked up the pace in the final term, finding more space in their goal circle whilst on the opposite end of the court, their defenders were working hard to push Rangers shooters to the edge of their shooting range.

Rangers continued to extend their lead right up until the final whistle, winning by a margin of 40 goals.
