Match of the Week: Roar take top spot

A top of the table match between West Coast Warriors and Western Roar saw Roar defend their position with a 48-47 goal win.

Highlights

Western Roar took advantage of the height and athleticism of their shooter Sophie Lamers who converted their feeds into goals.

West Coast Warriors’ centre court player Numi Tupaea was pivotal to her team’s attack, supporting great transitions between offence and defence.

Quarter One

Roar found the score board first after an early turnover against Warriors after the centre pass.

Roar pulled ahead for an early five goal lead leaving Warriors behind.

Despite a competitive end to the first term, Roar maintained their lead, 16-12.

Quarter Two

Both teams were prepared to be patient in the goal third as defenders closely defended their shooters.

Stoppages through the midcourt allowed both sides to reset their attacks but neither team were able to gain an advantage.

Some confusion in Roar’s goal circle towards the end of the second half allowed Warriors take the momentum and close the gap for a one goal margin ahead of half time.

Quarter Three

Both sides were fighting tooth and nail for every ball resulting in many collisions mid court.

Panicked disposals by Roar caused many passes to miss hands giving Warriors ample opportunities to score.

Despite their earlier miscommunications, Roar led by five goals at the end of the third term.

Quarter Four

Roar defended well in their goal end, refusing to let Warriors take advantage of their turnovers.

Warriors’ defenders worked hard through the midcourt to gain momentum for their team.

Beaten out by the buzzer, Warriors found themselves second best against Roar who won by one goal.
