First Nations Round began on Wednesday night with two Opens games, followed by a packed four courts at GNC on Friday night.

John McGuire performed a Welcome to Country to start the Friday matches Infront of all eight GIG WANL clubs standing side by side.

Many of our GIG WANL athletes also took part in the first two matches of the Fever Reserves season, managing a win against the Firebirds and a loss to the Lightning. A credit to the talent of the League.

Comets 68 defeated Rangers 40

Kicking off the round on Wednesday night, the second placed Comets side took an impressive 28 goal win over the Rangers.

The game started with an even 17 for the first quarter, but the Comets ran away by 11 in the second, maintaining their lead for the rest of the game.

Comet Madeleine Ash scored a huge 38 goals, her highest of the season. She was joined by Emma Cosh with 15 goals, Halle Richards with 14, and Chloe Ramsay with one.

The Rangers shooting side held their own with Georgia Pitt’s 22 goals, Abbey Hicks nine, Kathryne Bryne’s eight and Kimberley Burton with one.

Roar 66 defeated Sharks 51

Another Wednesday night match, the unstoppable top of the table Roar asserted their dominance over the Sharks.

After 43 goals in the game, Sophia Lamers continues as the leagues highest goal scorer.

Their huge final score was assisted by Asha Parsons 12 goals and Emma Putt’s 11.

Roar remain undefeated throughout the home and away season with one match left to retain their perfect score, a Grand Final rematch against the Comets.

The third placed Sharks continued with their consistent shooting side of Larrissa Harrison’s 29 goals, Sophie Eastaugh’s 16 and Georgie Cleaver’s six.

Demons 49 defeated Warriors 42

The seven-goal difference between the Demons and Warriors once again demonstrates just how close the middle of the ladder is this season and teases an exciting start to Finals.

The Warriors defensive side worked from strength to strength throughout the match, Wing Defence Jessica Eales and Goal Defence Chanel Gomes both assets to their squad.

Warrior Jamaica Jauncey proved she’s not just a shooter, with a strong defensive pressure in her own goal end to sit alongside her 21 goals.

Fellow Warriors Hana Stokes scored 19 and Emily Dwyer with two.

The Demons mid court was a credit to their win, Montana Turnbull in Centre and Ashleigh Cupido in Wing Attack working the circle and feeding into goals nicely.

The Demons shooting side fought for their win with Meg Gallager’s 28 goals, Cupido’s 14, Nikala Cox with five and Georgia Ettridge with two.

Lightning 56 defeated Jets 47

Both the Lightning and Jets dominated in a close first half, neither team looking to give up a win.

It was the Lightning’s six goal lead in the third quarter that marked their second win for the season.

Lightning’s Kasey Ridout was once again a high scorer with 41 goals, alongside Rebecca Lill with 10 and Cherie Miller with five.

The Jets did not take their loss quietly, managing the last three goals of the game to tighten the margin with strong work from their shooting side.

Rylee Hall scored 27, Brooke Gibson 11, Kate Kimberley seven and Grace Millichamp with two.
