Gaye’s list of accolades as a player and coach are incredibly difficult to rival. She is a former State and National player and coach and the only West Australian developed player to captain a winning World Championship Team.
She represented Australia at three World Tournaments/ Championships, gaining 17 Australian Test Caps.
Even when Gaye was not based in WA, during her time in Specialist and Head Coaching roles at the Australian Institute of Sport, she played a large role in developing WA talent.
Upon returning to her home State, Gaye took on two instrumental coaching roles. She joined the Perth Orioles as Head Coach in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy National League in 1999 where she stayed until 2002. In that same time, she was also Head Coach for the Western Australian Institute of Sport squad before leading the high-performance pathway for NWA.
Following her retirement from full-time coaching, Gaye continued her commitment to the development of WA netballers. Her commitment included coach education, mentoring and her involvement in the Fever in Time program, demonstrating an unwavering passion for the sport.
In 2009, she was recognised in the Netball Australia Hall of Fame in the Player Category as well as also being recognised in the WAIS Hall of Champions as an individual in 1989 and in the team category in 2018.
She will officially receive her medal at the SportWest Awards on Thursday, 26 February.
Netball WA would like to congratulate Gaye for this well deserving acknowledgement of her 60-plus years of service to our sport.
