Thirty-seven teams converged on the Gold Netball Centre for the 2022 Origin State Cup over the weekend.
The Origin State Cup provides the opportunity for the players, coaches and umpires in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Academy Program, Metro Academy Program and Regional Representative Teams to compete against each other. The competition is one of the selection points for athletes, umpires and coaches into the next level of programs and pathways.
In the 20U division, Wanneroo Districts Netball Association and Fremantle Netball Association both progressed to the grand final after undefeated pool rounds. In the closest match of the grand finals, Fremantle edged out Wanneroo by three goals
Two undefeated sides also faced off in the 16U grand final with Metro North Green defeating Metro South Black 42-16.
In the 14U competition, Metro South Green and Metro North Green were undefeated in the pool round, winning all five of their matches, before Metro South Green defeated Metro North Green by 12 goals in the grand final.
Fever in Time Metro Academy coaches Brianna Murray and Zoe Spencer were presented with the All Star Coach and Emerging Coach awards respectively.
Netball WA also recognised the performance of umpires by awarding two awards. Samantha Hetherington was presented with the All Star Umpire Award while Bethany Savage received the Emerging Umpire Award.
The Marie Little Shield WA State Team also rounded out its preparations for the upcoming national competition, taking part in two matches against the Netball WA No Limits team.
