The 2020 Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships was a great success last weekend as 222 teams from 29 Associations across the state battled it out for their respective titles.
Peel claimed the Open Division One title and Southern Districts the 17U Division One, with Fremantle Netball Association having a dominant weekend, claiming Division One wins in the 15U, 14U and 12U age groups.
Wanneroo Districts claimed the 13U Division One title.
The Southern Districts Red Devils (Red) once again, took the title for the No Limits competition after an 11-goal win against Wanneroo Districts (Black).
The Kalamunda & Districts and Wanneroo Districts Boys teams played against one another in an Exhibition Match, displaying their skills on the court.
Many competitors travelled a long way to participate, including regional Associations such as Karratha, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Esperance.
This year saw the Opening Ceremony take place at RAC Arena as our Association representatives joined the sea of green for the biggest watch party in netball history as West Coast Fever went head to head with the Adelaide Thunderbirds, thanks to our Principal Partner, the Gold Industry Group.
Vicki Chadwick, Don Leyland and Tanya O’Connor were also awarded the inaugural Netball WA Service to Sport Award and Sarah Curnow from Esperance Netball Association was awarded her National B Umpiring Badge.
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball Liz Booth said the 2020 Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships was a great success.
“Congratulations to all the victorious Associations and to all those who took part in a memorable three days of competition,” said Booth.
“A highlight on the Netball WA calendar, the Championships are a great opportunity for players, coaches, umpires and officials to develop their skills and benchmark themselves against other Associations.”
“A huge thank you must go to all our Netball WA staff who worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth competition even with all the external hurdles that this year has brought to our sport.”
The Championships are supported by Healthway, promoting the Fuel to Go & Play message, the Gold Industry Group, the Insurance Commission of Western Australia, promoting the Belt Up campaign, the University of Western Australia, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Town of Cambridge and the Perth Netball Association.
