The most talented netballers from across the state will battle it out this weekend at the Wembley Sports Park for the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships.
The 2020 edition will feature 222 teams in 31 divisions and nine age groups from 29 Associations across Western Australia.
Netball is all about inclusivity and these Championships embody this, with the Aboriginal All Stars competing for the first time with a 17U team and a 14U team, seven ‘No Limits’ teams, for participants with an intellectual disability, as well as two Boys teams participating in an exhibition match.
Competitors are travelling from far and wide to participate, with regional Associations such as Karratha, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Esperance taking part.
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth said the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships is a highlight event on the Netball WA calendar.
“After such an unprecedented year for sport, it’s great to still be able to conduct these Championships for our participants around the state,” said Booth.
“Representing their respective Associations is an immense honour for the players and the competition is a great opportunity for players, coaches, umpires and officials to develop their skills and benchmark themselves against other Associations.”
“To see this event go from strength-to-strength and continue to build in the inclusion space is just brilliant, allowing everyone to have the opportunity to share the love of our great sport.”
Healthway Director of Health Promotion, Julia Knapton, said on and off the court, children and young people need to be supported to make good choices about what they eat and drink especially during sport.
“At Healthway we are committed to growing our youngest generation into healthy adults, and I am proud of our partnership with Netball WA to bring you the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships, fuelling a healthier game day culture in junior sport.”
The Opening Ceremony will be held at half time during netball’s biggest live watch party at RAC Arena on Saturday evening, as West Coast Fever take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds. All participants and spectators are encouraged to come along to this FREE event. Click here to secure your seat.
