West Coast Warriors shooter Donnell Wallam has been crowned the 2020 Jill McIntosh Medallist for the second consecutive year.
Wallam finished eight votes ahead Sarah East, securing the highest individual honour in the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League (WANL) with 27 votes.
Wallam is only in her second GIG WANL season and is already becoming a star of the game, she recorded votes in 11 of 14 games, collecting maximum votes in five of those.
Winning the Jill McIntosh Medal caps off a stunning year for Wallam, who finished the 2020 season with a league high 1013 goals, 430 goals more than any other player. She was selected in the Team of the Year, won a premiership and named Grand Final MVP.
Wallam was also named Players’ Player of the Year at the awards ceremony.
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth, congratulated Wallam on winning her second Jill McIntosh Medal in as many seasons.
“Congratulations to Donnell, she had another terrific season,” Booth said.
“To score over 1000 goals in a season is no easy feat and to achieve that in only her second season in the competition is truly amazing. This award is a testament to Donnell’s hard work and passion for the game and her Club.”
Capping off Wallam’s superb season where she joined West Coast Fever as a training partner, the 26-year-old recently signed with UK netball club Leeds Rhinos to play in the Vitality Netball Superleague
Western Roar claimed Club of the Year honours, while the Coach of the Year was split between Curtin Hamersley Comets Opens Coach, Alexis Stevens and Western Roar 20U Coach Karen Turnbull. Ruth Aryang (Rangers) named the Best and Fairest Award in the 20U and Mitchell Cook (Western Roar) named Best and Fairest in the Men’s Division.
Christine Johnston was awarded the Umpire of the Year and Sue Neal named Bench Official of the Year.
