The State Cup is a highly beneficial weekend-long competition which platforms Fever in Time (FIT) players, coaches and umpires.
Athletes were supported by 47 coaches and 47 umpires (10 regional and 37 metro each) who brought their expertise and enthusiasm to the young players divided into 14/U and 16/U divisions.
In the 14/U division, the Boonaroo team had to show resilience and strong connection as they came out on top, winning 34-23 to Mookaroo in the final.
Head Coach Nicole Setter was elevated to her role just prior to the program starting and took the challenge in her stride, leading them all the way to a win.
“The team blew me away from their very first game and just kept building,” she said.
“It was such a privilege to have worked with this group of players and coaches and means so much to be able celebrate this win, I can’t stop smiling.”
In the 16/U division, it was a tight battle in the final for the winner to be decided.
Djer Djer was second on the ladder going into their final and demonstrated what working until the last second can do, winning by a single goal 27-28 over Wardong.
Head Coach Trudy Cammell said that the division was extremely competitive with a very intense final.
“Overcoming an eight-goal deficit at half-time by steadily chipping away at the score to take the win showed incredible discipline, composure and belief, not only in themselves but as a team,” she said.
“This was a fantastic way to finish the FIT season and a true reward for the teams hard work and commitment.”
From within the umpiring program, two participants and a reserve were selected for each final. Well done to Emily Smith, Hollie Roberts and Ashlyn Ward as reserve for their selection in the 14/U final.
Imogen Vidal, Scarlett Barnes were selected with Hollie Roberts as a reserve for the 16/U final after all their hard work.
All participants from the program will be taking their newfound knowledge back to their home teams across the State.
Netball WA State Selectors were in attendance throughout the State Cup weekend and were impressed by the high level of competition and intensity displayed throughout the games.
The State Cup continues to be an excellent platform for both metro and regional athletes to showcase their netball talent. Identified athletes will be invited to attend Phase 2 of the WCF Futures trials
