Western Australia’s next generation of netball talent will be on display throughout the month of March, when the inaugural Developing Talent Challenges are held in Katanning and Perth.
The Katanning edition of the Challenge will be held on March 7, while the Perth Challenge will be played across March 20-21 at the Gold Netball Centre.
Nine teams will take part across the two Challenges, with the Curtin Hamersley Comets, Jets Academy, the South West Regional Academy, Bolts, and Scouts to compete at both events.
The Great Southern Regional Academy of Sport Program (RASP) will compete in the Katanning event only, while the Demons Academy, Pride and Fins will take part in the Perth edition.
The Developing Talent Challenge is a new initiative by Netball WA, that exists to support the Gold Industry Group WANL athlete pathway and provide an opportunity for developing athletes to be exposed to competition through match play.
Netball WA General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth, said the program was an important one in the Netball WA Pathway.
“There’s no doubt last year was one of great disruption across our community, so we’re very proud to be able to launch the Developing Talent Challenge in 2021,” Booth said.
“The Challenge will also ensure the continued development of all participants by providing the highest standard of playing, coaching, umpiring and officiating.”
“Another key aspect will be continuing to build relationships and connections amongst all GIG WANL clubs and Regional WA RASP and Academies.”
Entry will be free for all participants and spectators at the Gold Netball Centre, while a $2 entry fee for team officials and spectators will be charged for the event in Katanning, with a $4.50 entry fee for players under 18 and a $5.60 entry for players over 18.
