In 2023, the Albany based club sold the third highest number of raffle tickets across the state, raising an impressive $5078 in the process.
Club President Sharnee Clothier said this immensely helped the financial burdens the club and their members had been feeling.
“We have found that over the last couple of years the price of everything has gone up. Any fundraising is a huge benefit to our members because we invest that money back into the club,” she said.
“The money from the raffle helps us pay for things like our windup at the end of the year, medallions, and equipment upgrades. The extra assistance helps us keep our fees down for members.
“People are struggling to pay sporting fees at the moment, normally we don’t do payment plans but in the last year we’ve had multiple families request them.”
The 2024 Community Raffle will be the first time that Clubs and Associations retain 100% of the proceeds from the raffle, providing further financial support.
Ms Clothier said this new system will be a huge opportunity for clubs to reinvest in themselves and take some pressure off their members.
Within the Albany community many parents are paying for multiple children to play a variety of sport, these seasons often overlap which leads to several fees being due at the same time.
Their secret to selling so many tickets and generating as much profit as possible was their use of social media, in particular Facebook to get the word out to members and surrounding local areas.
Ms Clothier also credits the support of the wider community, the club sold tickets on their Saturday game days or at their local Farmers Market and witnessed their community getting behind them.
The Kanga’s encourage other WA Associations and Clubs to get involved in this year’s community raffle.
“We would definitely recommend doing it, you’ll be surprised how easy it is to sell a ticket and how people will get behind it for their club,” she said.
“It’s just so well organised, the process is super smooth and easy, so it makes you want to participate again and again.”
