After a heartbreaking one-goal loss to the Western Roar in 2024, the Comets are back on the Premiers list with an 11-goal win.

The Comets led throughout the entire match, producing a full-court sensational performance.

Q1 Western Roar 7 | Comets17

The Grand Final decider kicked off with a tight first quarter.

Caitlyn Brown proved why she’s now a three-time Jill McIntosh Medallist with an early intercept on opposition Jasmah Haywood.

Comets Captain Georgia Morgan was a much needed settled body in the mid-court, finding an intercept and balancing the grand final nerves of her team.

The Comets shooting duo of Haywood and Sloan Burton broke the quarter open, their ability to be in sync in the goal circle troubling for the Roar.

Q2 Western Roar 15 | Comets 33

The Comets continued to build in the second quarter and stole away the first half with a lead as high as 18 goals.

Roar’s Cleo Kenny provided strong ball into her shooters around the circle and read the play well.

In defence, Comet Liz Dronfield was incredibly influential with intercepts against Roar.

Sophia Lamers held majority of the shooting responsibility for Roar, a tough job against Mia Henderson and Dronfield.

Q3 Western Roar 29 | Comets 43

Roar’s 21/U MVP Kate Cunningham came on for the Open side and still managed to bring energy, pressure and intercepts to the GK bib.

Maddie Hunter fought for intercepts in the mid-court for Roar, but the side struggled to covert mid-court and defensive power into goals.

Q4 Western Roar 43 | Comets 54

Roar weren’t going down without a fight and came back on in the final term with a point to prove.

Teagan Begovic came on and shot a goal for the Open side after herself just winning the 21/U premiership.

Haywood ended her day on a sensational 44 goals and earnt herself the Grand Final MVP Award, a fantastic effort from a player who missed the 2024 season with injury.

The Comets have now won two Grand Finals in three years under the leadership of Head Coach Michelle Cox.
